Important Safety Information

The roads to Jungo are primarily unpaved gravel and dirt. Conditions can vary greatly depending on recent weather. A high-clearance vehicle is strongly recommended, and 4WD may be necessary.

There is limited cell phone service in the area. Ensure your vehicle is in good mechanical condition, and you have a full tank of gas, a spare tire, extra water, and food.

Let someone know your travel plans and expected arrival time. Do not rely solely on GPS, as it may suggest impassable routes.

From Winnemucca, NV

Turn-by-Turn Directions:

Approximately 40 miles, 50 minutes

1. Start from Winnemucca

  • Head north on US-95 (toward Boise)
  • Pass under Interstate 80 and cross the Humboldt River

2. Turn onto Jungo Road

  • Immediately after the river underpass, turn left onto Jungo Road (Humboldt County Route 55)

3. Drive West toward the Playa

  • Follow Jungo Road west for ~35-38 miles
  • You'll see the railroad tracks on your left for most of the route
  • About 35 miles in, you'll pass the Jungo Middle Playa visible on the right

4. Arrive at the Middle Playa

  • Continue west past the mid-playa toward the railroad overpass
  • After crossing the tracks, drive about 1 mile more until you reach Imlay Road on your left

5. Access the South Playa Gate

  • Turn left onto Imlay Road, drive about 500 feet
  • Look for a barbed-wire cattle gate on the left and a banked curve
  • The gate is roughly 50 yards off the road and on the fenceline
  • The entrance is marked by two 12ft pipes and an electric gate
  • If the gate does not open automatically, there is a gray push button on the north post
  • The gate will close automatically after 2 minutes
